Board Of Governors

Mr B Gibson

Chairperson (BELB Nominee)
I have had the immense privilege of being a member of the Governing Body of St. Josephs College for the last ten years, 8 of which as Chair of Governors. This school educated my youngest son Michael who left the College to take a well earned place in Queen’s University Belfast where he was in due course awarded a Master’s Degree in the passion of his life, Media and Films Studies. He has never looked back since and is now enjoying a successful career in a prestigious Media company in London. I have also served on a number of Management Committees of Parish and Diocesan Committees (Chair or Vice-Chair of most of them eventually) in our Diocese over many years. My wife and I have 5 wonderful children and 9 beautiful grandchildren of whom we are extremely proud. It is my huge joy to have been allowed to give a little back to the school which gave Michael such a terrific start in life.

V. Rev. P. Mc Kenna

Trustee Nominee
I joined the Board of Governors of St. Joseph’s College in October 2008 having been appointed Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Parish, in which parish St. Joseph’s College is situated. Before coming to Belfast I was parish priest of Sacred Heart parish in Dundrum Co. Down (1999-2008). However since my ordination in 1970 I have spent a considerable part of my life in education; firstly as a teacher of English and Religion in St. Mac Nissi’s College Garron Tower (1970-1983.) and as a teacher of these same subjects in Our Lady and St. Patrick’s College Knock, from 1983-1985. I subsequently became President of the College in 1985 and remained in that position until Bishop Walsh asked me to become PP in Dundrum. In education I have had a keen interest in Pastoral Care and as a result of that interest Garron Tower was one of the first second level schools to give it a place of prominence in the life of both students and staff. That interest has been maintained by me on the many Boards of Governors on which I have served for over 40 years. My parish commitments do not allow for too much recreational activities but I do enjoy the odd game of golf, reading and listening to the radio. I am delighted to be part of the life and times of St. Joseph’s College as a member of the Board of Governors.

I have worked in Financial Services for 25 years and having joined the Board of Governors in 2014, am keen to share my skills and knowledge with the school, firstly in recognition and thanks for all the support, care and encouragement to succeed that was shown to my son over the last 7 years and secondly, to ensure that all children who attend the school have the best opportunity and environment in which to reach their true potential.

I have been a Governor at St Joseph’s College for over 9 years now. Like all of my fellow Governors I am passionate about the education of all pupils at the college. I also bring experience of being a Governor for over 13 years of a large Grammar School in Belfast having served on various committees and expressing the Boards views on the school infrastructure during a new build. As a Chartered Civil Engineer I try to bring a different perspective to the Board of Governors of St Joseph’s College.
