Homework Policy (Homestudy)

Homework is an essential after school activity, and we rely upon parents to ensure that work is completed to the highest standards and that the child has a peaceful and quiet area in which to study.

St Joseph’s College HOMEWORK TASKS aim to:

  • Reinforce and extend work that has been carried out in class.
  • Provide evidence of knowledge and understanding which may contribute to the pupils’ overall assessment.
  • Encourage independent study,  as an integral part of the learning process.

Types Of Homework

The amount and nature of homework will vary from subject to subject. Types of homework may include:-

  • Reading,
  • Writing,
  • Project work,
  • Practical tasks,
  • Designing,
  • Revision,
  • Learning and research.

Some homework may be set for the next lesson.

Others, such as project work, designing, writing and research, may be given in advance of a stated deadline.

It is expected that each pupil should spend a reasonable amount of time on homework and private study each evening.

Organisation Of Homework

Each pupil is given a homework diary at the beginning of the year to record details of homework.
Homework serves to develop self-discipline, personal organisation and the ability to work independently, as well as improving comprehension of, and attainment in, the pupils school work.
If your son or daughter appears to have little homework, please contact the school.
