Key Stage 4

Years 11 and 12 pupils study a broad range of GCSE/Level 2 subjects. Pupils study 6 core subjects and choose an additional 3 subjects to study from a list of optional subjects:

 

Core Subjects at GCSE Level 2

  • English Language (and English Literature for some pupils)
  • Learning for Life and Work
  • Mathematics
  • Religious Studies
  • Science
  • COPE Level 2 (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness) equivalent to GCSE Grade B.

 

Optional Subjects at GCSE Level 2

  • Additional Science
  • Art and Design
  • Business & Communication Systems
  • Child Development
  • Creative iMedia
  • Dance
  • Design and Technology
  • Digital Technology
  • Performing Arts
  • PE/Sports Studies
  • English Literature
  • Geography
  • Health and Social Care
  • Home Economics (Food and Nutrition)
  • History
  • Media Studies
  • Music
  • Road User & Motor Vehicle Studies
  • Spanish

Most pupils study 9 or 10 subjects at GCSE/Level 2.  All pupils have timetabled PE and Careers Education classes.

We also offer a combined vocational and academic course for those pupils who wish to pursue a more vocational route. Pupils will study 5 GCSE/Level 2 subjects including GCSE English and Maths and 3 Optional GCSE/Level 2 subjects.  They also study Level 2 COPE, Religious Education and Double Award Occupational Studies (equivalent to 2 GCSEs) and as well as job sampling.

To enhance our curriculum provision for Year 11 and 12 pupils, we work in collaboration with

  • Work Force Training Services who deliver Double Award Occupational Studies (Years 11 & 12)
  • Irish Football Company who deliver the City & Guilds Certificate in Increasing Participation in Sport and Active Leisure in the Community (equivalent to 3 GCSEs).
