Key Stage 4

In Years 11 and 12 pupils study a broad range of GCSE subjects. Pupils study six core subjects and choose an additional 3 subjects to study from a list of optional subjects:

Core Subjects at GCSE Level 2

  • English Language & English Literature
  • Learning for Life and Work (including Citizenship, Employability and PSHE)
  • Mathematics
  • Religious Studies
  • Science
  • COPE Level 2 (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness) which is equivalent to GCSE Grade B.

Optional Subjects at GCSE Level 2

  • Additional Science
  • Art and Design
  • Business & Communication Systems
  • Construction (BTEC level 2 Certificate)
  • Dance
  • Design and Technology
  • Performing Arts
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Geography
  • Health and Social Care
  • History
  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Music
  • OCR Business Professional
  • Level II Diploma in Sport
  • Spanish

Most pupils study 9 or 10 subjects at GCSE/Level 2.

We also offer a combined vocational and academic course for those pupils who wish to pursue a more vocational route. This course contains a core of 3 GCSE/Level 2 subjects i.e. English, Maths and Science; a GCSE Short Course in RE; 3 Optional GCSE/Level 2 subjects; Level 2 Award in Occupational Studies (equivalent to 2 GCSEs) and BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Applied Science as well as job sampling and work experience.

Study Skills programmes are offered to enrich the curriculum.
