Slieve Donard hike in aid of Aware NI

On Tuesday 25th September the Year 13 and Year 14 students took on 853 metres of Northern Irelands highest mountain, Slieve Donard. The pupils were aiming to summit the mountain in a challenge aimed at raising funds for Aware NI.

The weather was grey, overcast and windy but it did not dampen or dull the spirits of the hardy St Joseph’s College staff and students as they summited the mountain just before 1pm after a two-hour trek up.

All got up and down safely and much needed funds for the Aware NI charity were raised. This is the third year of the sixth form trek to Donard to raise charity awareness and funds, and after the pain and tiredness in the legs have subsided all participants were definitely saying the experience was a positive one!
